Keswick Lecture: Faithful to the creation mandate?

When God created the world, he said it was “very good”. His very first command to humans was to have dominion over it and to care for it. Yet we have failed dismally: global climate change and suffering from disasters such as floods, droughts and famines are largely down to human selfishness. I will explore a Christian response to such ‘natural’ disasters in an otherwise beautiful creation.

This session will be live streamed and available for catch up.

Morning Bible Reading: Philippians

Paul wrote the letter to the Philippians while he was in lockdown – imprisoned in Rome and awaiting trial before Nero. Yet his letter brims over with gratitude as he rejoices in the abundant blessings poured into his life by a faithful God.

Jesus – a faithful Saviour – Philippians 2:1-30
Even this church had its problems – there was evidence of division and disunity. Paul’s lifts their eyes to Christ, the faithful Saviour, who poured out his life in humble service. To support his argument Paul describes two gospel heroes. Do we yearn for unity? Do we hunger for holiness? Do we long to shine like stars in this dark world?

This session will be live streamed and available for catch up.

Evening Celebration: Pain and God’s faithfulness

The Psalms are not just our words to God, but God’s words to us, given back to his people as instruction, shaping us to respond to him as we ought with our minds and hearts and lives. Each evening this week we will explore a psalm that talks about faithfulness.

Psalm 119:73-80 reminds us that experiencing pain, difficulty and affliction is not a mark of God’s unfaithfulness, but can be an expression of his faithfulness. When life is not easy, we need to know God’s character so we can trust him in the midst.

This session will be live streamed and available for catch up.
